Fire Station Visit

William and Grace went on their first field trip today! To the Winter Park Fire Department!

It was a really nice trip. I knew it would be fun, but the firemen exceeded my expectations. They did a wonderful job entertaining the little guys and actually teaching them a thing or two. William left explaining in a long drawn out way that "firemen wear helmets, gloves and jackets, find fires, then rescue William, Grace, and Mommy to keep them safe." He listened!

One of the firemen dressed in full gear, plus the oxygen mask. They told us that the biggest worry for firemen entering a house is children hiding because they're afraid of firemen (it's a daunting look, that's for sure) and so dressing up with the oxygen gear was to help the kids get comfortable with something so strange - in hopes they'll never see it, but if they did it wasn't new. William and Grace were terrified and I finally convinced William to stand next to him (with me) for a picture. Grace flat out refused. Maybe next time!

And the most fun part? Spray a real hose! A cone was the target and that hose is strong! Mommy clearly had more fun. William wanted me to go first and then he did it second, but only if I held his back.

All the kids left with fire department goodies - fire station coloring books, stickers and hats. The firemen were too kind. A great first field trip!
