Our first family photo |
We are SO happy to announce our baby boy William's arrival! William was born on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 1:26 a.m. He was 7 lbs. 6 oz. and 20.5 in. long. Our new family of four (Maggie being our first furry baby!) is now home and doing really well! The story of D-Day is below... I wrote this on my iPhone after checking into the hospital, since following my 39 week appointment William decided it was THE time to meet us and I never got home to write a post on the appointment. I'll be uploading more pictures of our little boy soon, but till then enjoy the post that began on Tuesday, January 24 when we checked into Winter Park Memorial Hospital...
Matt and I went for our 39 week check-up this morning. But beforehand, I went to the hematologist to have my blood tested and thankfully it was back above 100. Phew. We then headed to my OB appointment and saw Dr. Moore. She asked if I was having contractions yet and still I hadn't felt anything different than usual. She did an exam and said, well you're at 2 cm now and 60% effaced so you're making progress and you're going to be ready any day now. She also said, "Wouldn't surprise me if you go into labor in the next 48 hours." If not, the plan was to be induced the next week on Monday, January 30. Wow! This is actually going to happen soon! It was really nice to have a great idea that within the week we would absolutely meet our baby boy.
Matt went back to work and I went to Dunkin for an iced coffee. How else would I celebrate? :) Then I ran a couple more errands after letting some friends and family know... "Hey this could happen soon!" William will be here no later than Monday! I grabbed a couple hoagies after my errands and ate lunch with Matt at his office. It was about then that I started to feel crampy... Not terrible, but a little different. I headed home and went upstairs planning to take a little Kat Nap with Maggie, but right as I was getting into bed (Maggie already comfortably under the covers!) I felt a little gush. Umm... is that my water breaking? I called Matt and said I'm not positive... but I'm thinking my water broke... I called the nurse at my OB office and left a message asking whether I should be heading into the office, hospital, now what? It happened a couple more times and I knew THIS is happening! So what to do - shower again and blow-dry my hair because who knows when I'll be able to do that at a leisurely pace again! The nurse called back and said come on in, Dr. Jones will check you at 3:45 p.m. Here we go!
Matt came back home and thankfully our car was already packed up from our appointment earlier in the day. Dr. Jones saw me for two seconds before telling us to head over to Winter Park Memorial Hospital to deliver our baby William! I had already made more progress toward labor since that morning's appointment.
It was so strange walking into the hospital and "checking in." Hello, I am here to deliver my baby! This is every day for the nurses and staff, but Matt and I were looking at each other wondering what should we be doing? Immediately they set me up in a delivery room and the waiting game began. After signing papers and getting a rundown of things to come they administered pitocin in hopes of making my light cramps more painful contractions. It worked! After a very short period of time I said allllright give me that epidural! It went in at 8:05 p.m., but took at least an hour for pain to diminish. By 10:00 p.m. I think I was most comfortable, so it certainly isn't immediate relief like I had imagined. But hey - how can I complain?? At least it worked!
The nurse just came in to check on me and I'm at 7cm now. More great progress! She estimates he will be here in 2-3 hrs and said it's great that he's already in position. What a day. It's gone by so quickly. Matt is trying to snooze a bit and the State of the Union is on -- not that I hear a single word Obama is saying. It's 10:15 p.m. He will be here soon!! I'm so excited!!
Sure enough, the nurse was right! William arrived 3 hours later and it was very quick. SO quick that I literally almost had William without a doctor present. We WAITED for Dr. Jones to show up and right at the moment the nurses said, "Looks like we're delivering this baby without a doctor" she walks in the door to catch him. Thanks for making an appearance, doc! What would you do without nurses?? They literally do ALL the work and the nurse Tessa that was with me throughout was beyond helpful.
Honestly, I don't have a single complaint about the delivery. It was so quick and I was so comfortable through the experience that I surprised myself. I feel so fortunate that everything worked out so well for all of us and that William is a happy, healthy baby. The rest of our stay at the hospital was great and really no hiccups to report. They did say William was slightly jaundiced after the first night, but not enough to warrant any sort of extra care. By the time we left for home the pediatrician told us we were definitely in the clear and that we didn't need to see our pediatrician any sooner than Monday. He's eating well, we're diapering constantly now (who knew you could be so excited about dirty diapers!), and sleeping when he isn't eating. All is well and the Orosz family couldn't be more happy! Many more pictures to come soon!
We love you William!
